Contractors, it is easy to become licensed to offer home improvement financing to your customers in
order to secure more jobs. The State of Florida, per Chapter 520 Part IV of the Florida Statutes,
requires any and all businesses involved in financing home improvements secured by a mortgage or
lien on real property obtain a Home Improvement Retail Installment Seller license. The license is
required for a contractor who repairs, remodels or adds improvement to a single family residence
pursuant to a written agreement and when a mortgage lien on the property is retained as security.
The licensing is done through the State of Florida Office of Financial Regulation. The initial
application fee is $175.
